JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A 61-year-old man is in serious condition after troopers say a driver who was texting and driving hit him, then drove off.
The Florida Highway Patrol said that Rick Hill from Altha was arrested and charged with felony hit and run.
They said that around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, Caron Gaston from Quebec, Canada was riding his bike northbound in the right turn lane of U.S. 231, just south of Wallace Road.
Hill was also driving north on the road, when his car veered into Gaston's path, hitting him.
Troopers said that Hill didn't stop to help Gaston and instead continued north. Eventually, they said that a Jackson County deputy recognized his car and stopped him, holding him until troopers arrived.
Hill was then arrested. He also faces charges of texting while driving and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.
Gaston was transported to Bay Medical Hospital for his injuries.
