TALLAHASSEE, Fla (WTXL) - After the tragic shooting by Myron May on the Florida State University campus earlier today, many people are looking for answers. The officials have identified the gunman as Myron May, a Florida State alumnus, whom also attended Texas Tech University's law school.

May was fatally shot early Thursday morning after he shot three people at the Florida State library. Two are hospitalized and one has been released.

As the local community gathers in remembrance and prayer, mental health officials are urging those affected by the shooting to seek assistance.

Police have acquired a journal and videos that confirms May believed the government had targeted him. Officials believe May suffered from paranoia and depression.

“He may have suffered from some serious mental health issues. Paranoia and depression are very difficult to deal with, especially on your own,” says Laura Clevenger of the American Counseling Association.

Although mental illness can be difficult to detect, there are symptoms that can be indicators that something may be wrong.

“For those dealing with depression, some isolate or seclude themselves from family and friends. For those dealing with anxiety it could possibly be the same, making you feel wired or jittery. You can also feel depressed and anxious at the same time.”

Clevenger encourages anyone that is seeking counseling to act. Counselors will be on hand through the Florida State University Counseling Center, and through the American Counseling Association’s website.
