TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A big check donation came in for one Leon County elementary school Tuesday morning, all meant to curb childhood hunger.
The $1,500 check from the Scott & Wallace law firm will go toward filling the shelves of the food pantry at Conley Elementary on Tallahassee's Southside.
The school will use the money to buy canned goods and other non-perishable food items to fill students' backpacks so they can have food on the weekends.
"This is meeting one of their most basic needs which is hunger and if we don't start focusing on childhood hunger and meeting those needs, our children may not ever learn to the potential that they're capable of," said Taka Mays, the principal at Conley Elementary.
