TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County Schools says its reached a tentative agreement with the Leon County Teachers Association on contracts for the 2018 - 2019 school year.
Among some of the agreed upon language are guaranteed bonuses for highly rated teachers. The contract proposal also includes:
- A guaranteed $1,200 bonus for teachers rated as “Highly Effective” who are not covered in the Florida Best and Brightest Program—such as guidance counselors, media specialists, and speech and language pathologists among others.
- A guaranteed $800 bonus for those teachers not covered in the Florida Best and Brightest Program who are rated as rated as “Effective.”
- A 10% increase in the supplement base for teachers who work primarily with students after hours in the areas of academics, performing arts and athletics.
LCS will vote on a final decision on the contract's language in the Leon County School Board meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Superintendent Rocky Hanna says they're excited to bring the proposal to the school board.
"The speed and positivity of the negotiation are indicative of our strong relationship with LCTA and the professionalism on both sides of the table,” said Hanna. “While this agreement means additional dollars for our teachers in the way of a small bonus, it falls short of what really needs to be done, which is to eliminate the Florida Best and Brightest Bonus program. I continue to lobby the state legislature to give school districts the autonomy to properly compensate employees based on local needs and priorities.”
The LCTA voted to ratify the contract last Tuesday.
The Leon County School Board will take up the issue for a vote Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. The school board will meet in the Aquilina Howell Building at 3955 W. Pensacola Street.
