JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Elementary, middle school, and high school students in Jefferson County will all attend a single charter school together under a motion passed Tuesday night.

According to the county's superintendent Marianne Arbulu, the motion passed Wednesday night approving the Somserset Academy charter bill. She says that the bill will merge the two schools in Jefferson County (elementary and the combined middle/high school) into one giant school.

For teachers, this will mean a $7,000 pay increase county wide. For operations, this means that the school will take on all operation procedures standard with a charter school.

When asked about any issues with combining such a vast age group Arbulu assures that that won’t be an issue.

She said that Somerset will be bringing in an architect that will help keep the different age group levels (Elem. Middle, High) relatively separate.

Contract negotiations between the schools and Somerset Academy begin Monday.
