TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford says his chamber is in "no rush" to approve a proposed split of the joint College of Engineering.

The Florida Senate set aside $13 million for a new engineering college to be run by FSU.  The measure was originally proposed by Senator John Thrasher.

FAMU supporters have thus far vigorously opposed the idea, and top FAMU officials including President Elmira Mangum, Ph.D. have said that the university cannot sustain a separate engineering school without additional funding.

Weatherford went on to say that he wants the Florida Board of Governors to weigh in on the proposed split, before the legislature takes any definitive action.
