TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tuesday was a big day for Florida as the Sunshine State welcomed in new leadership.

It’s been just under 12 hours since Ron DeSantis took the oath of office on the steps of the Historic Capitol in Tallahassee.

On Wednesday Florida’s 46th governor plans to visit Mexico Beach, an area hit hard by Hurricane Michael.

But Tuesday night, he and his administration paused to celebrate with the traditional Inaugural Ball.

The night was full of celebration as Gov. Ron DeSantis thanked those in the crowd but also vowed now is the time to get work done.

The govenor and First Lady Casey DeSantis graced the crowd with the traditional first dance, with him saying, "I’m going to try to not step on her dress."

Supporters in the crowd say they believe the future is bright with DeSantis leading Florida.

Mike Watkins, who says he is running for Florida House of Representatives District 7 in 2020, commented: “Gov. Ron DeSantis started out with a bang and had some really good words of encouragement and it is a bold vision and a bright future for us and we’re really happy to be here with Governor DeSantis tonight."

DeSantis said Tuesday that all he can promise is the sweat off his brow, a full heart, his best judgment and the courage of his convictions.
