TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A local tech company unveiled a new facility to help produce products used to make smartphone and Tesla batteries.

General Capacitor held a ribbon cutting ceremony to reveal it's new industrial-sized dry room.

The company says the new facility is believed to be the only commercial dry room in the north Florida Panhandle, and will allow their company's production line to produce 100 to 300 lithumion capacitators a day.

"Lithum, yes it's used in your batteries like in your cellphone or a Tesla car but it cannot stand to be around any moisture," said Davis George Moye, the General Capacitors project manager. "So it's very important that you have a facility that is very very dry. It's probably 150 - 200 dryer than the air we're breathing right now."

General Capacitors previously used a dry room at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.

Representatives say now they can produce products in their facility as well as conduct research.
