Former school counselor sentenced for inappropriate behavior with child

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -  A former school counselor, who was accused of inappropriately touching a child in an apartment complex pool in 2016 has been sentenced.

29-year old Kathgret Rentz was charged with six counts of lewd and lascivious conduct toward a child.  

Rentz was sentenced on Friday to serve 20 years concurrently for each offense followed by 10 years of sex offender probation. 

She is also to have no contact with the victim or the family and has been designated a sexual predator.  

The judge heard from eight witnesses, one called by the defense and seven called by the state. Those witnesses included a psychologist, the principal of Chaires Elementary, and people present during the incident. 

Her attorney recommended to the judge that she be incarcerated as close to Georgia as possible to be near her family. 


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The sentencing hearing for former Chaires Elementary School guidance counselor Kathgret Rentz is delayed.

The 29-year old is charged with lewd and lascivious conduct toward a child.

Rentz was set to appear in a Leon County courtroom Tuesday morning but instead filed a motion for substitution of counsel.

In August 2016, witnesses told police they saw Rentz hugging and kissing a child under the age of 16 at a Tallahassee apartment complex pool.

In April Rentz plead no contest on the charges.

She is expected back in court next week.
