TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A foreign company is expanding its operations in Tallahassee.

Danfoss Turbocor unveiled its new application development center Tuesday.

Danfoss is a manufacturing company that makes products like air conditioners, but it also focuses on solutions for renewable energy.

Danfoss' new application development center is a state-of-the-art laboratory, and research and design hub.

It's located within Tallahassee's Innovation Park.

Danfoss leaders say this new center will allow manufacturers of air-conditioning equipment to design and test the next generation of high-efficiency, environmentally-friendly equipment.

Mayor Andrew Gillum attending the grand opening applauds the company for continuing to invest in Tallahassee.

"We've been trying as a community for a long time to break the reputation of a government only town, and what you have here with Danfoss Tubocor is a high-tech manufacturing facility developing component pieces for air conditioning all over the globe," said Gillum. "Quite frankly, with as hot as it is outside, I don't think their business model is going anywhere anytime soon."

Danfoss Turbocor is headquartered in Denmark. The company's president tells us they also collaborate with FSU and FAMU on research on looking into ways to reduce the amount of energy major appliances like air conditioners use.
