SUNFLOWER COUNTY (Mississippi News Now) - 23-year-old Lavonte Lloyd, of Madison County, kidnapped and killed his 1-year-old daughter, Kamaya, before turning the gun on himself in Sunflower County Thursday morning.
Lloyd traveled from Madison to Holmes County and kidnapped his daughter, who was in the custody of her mother, before traveling to to Greenwood and then on to Sunflower County.
This happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday on Highway 82, near Greenwood.
Deputies chased Lloyd there after learning he had held the mother of his child, Kimberly Outlaw, and his baby girl hostage in Cruger. He let Outlaw go and drove off with the baby, with deputies in pursuit.
Investigators say he shot the child, then himself, while driving down the highway.
Earlier in the week, the Holmes County Sheriff's Department says Lloyd broke into the home of the mother of his child. Deputies chased him, but he got away.
The mother of his child also filed a domestic order against him earlier in the week, but it hadn’t been served.
Lloyd did have visitation rights, but authorities are now trying to figure out what triggered this violent spree.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Holmes County Sheriff's Office and other agencies are investigating.
