STEINHATCHEE, Fla. (WTXL) -  Wednesday, the Taylor County Sheriff announced the promotion of Sgt. Robert Lundy to the rank of lieutenant.

The Sheriff's Office announced the promotion on Facebook on Wednesday.

They said that Lundy suffered an injury while on duty back in February of 2014.

While at Timberland Ford in Perry, getting his cruiser serviced, a car crashed into the dealership and the driver opened fire. TCSO said that Lundy took a shotgun blast from less than five feet away.

Somehow, Lundy was able to return fire and killed the shooter.

Sheriff Wayne Padgett stated, “On that day I responded as a deputy and stood by Robert Lundy’s side. I’ve stayed with him and his family throughout his recovery. Today as the Sheriff of Taylor County, I want to again recognize and reassure him that I will continue to be here, right by his side.”
