CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) - A Cairo woman is facing charges after the Grady County Sheriff's Office says her newborn baby died because she didn't get it the medical attention needed.

Deputies say Amethyst Hindsman gave birth to a child that was alive, but the baby later died.

Medical tests show that the child would have lived, if it had received medical care in a timely manner.

Hindsman is facing involuntary manslaughter, concealing a death, and first degree cruelty to children.

The child's death has been ruled a homicide.
