TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A project along Tallahassee's South Monroe corridor plans to bring residential and commercial space to the neighborhood.

It's being called 'Cascades Garden', and the goal is to provide quality housing and retail options in that part of town.

We're talking about townhomes, apartments and office space.

The plans could also include a grocery store, coffee shop and restaurants, a lot of potential for this property along South Monroe.

Cascades Garden will be located on more than five acres along South Monroe Street between Oakland and Harrison avenues. The site borders the historic Myers Park neighborhood and it's within walking distance to Cascades Park.

Developers say it's an ideal location to add mixed-use development that appeals to all types of residents.

"There's certainly a demand that I think is unmet, even before the Cascades Park development," said Jake Kiker, an attorney at WilliamsGautier, "but now with everything that's going on in the area, the ability to create a community like that, you know, on a 5.6 acre piece that has that type of proximity to a state capitol -- there's really nothing else like it."

Developers are looking into garden space for each residential unit.

The property has been sold and that includes Bahn Thai Restaurant. Developers tell us they're hoping to keep the business there as one of its tenants.

The proposal was presented to residents in Myers Park at a meeting last week. Developers say they want this project to work for everyone in the area.
