THOMASVILLE, GA (WTXL) - Officers arrested three women, including an elementary school teacher, in connection to a credit card scam.

Officers from the Thomasville Police Department say Brittany Walden and Cynthia Yates of Cairo, Georgia, were confronted while attempting to charge a credit card that was not theirs.

Officials say the women had gift cards that were purchased legally but the magnetic strips on the cards contained banking account information from unsuspecting victims in Georgia and Texas.

According to investigators, electronic equipment that was used to transfer the stolen bank account information onto the gift cards, as well as more banking and personal information for even more victims was recovered.

Wendy Yates, a teacher at Pelham Elementary School, was also arrested and identified in connection to fraud at three business locations.

School superintendent Floyd Ford said, "I cannot condone this behavior. I am disappointed that anyone would do this, and we will take appropriate actions."

As of now, Wendy Yates is still employed by the school, as Floyd has not had a chance to speak with her, Floyd said, "In America, everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty."
